Mr. Cambier has responsibility for finance, accounting and treasury functions, in addition to deal sourcing, business plan review, and leading and assisting investment due diligence efforts. John started with the Microelectronics Center of North Carolina in 1994 and has held positions in technology transfer, contracts administration, business development and finance, contributing to the spin-off of four companies and leading the sale of three business units during that time, including the formation and ultimate sale of Cronos Integrated Microsystems to JDS Uniphase for $665M in 2000. John has a B.A. from Michigan State University and his M.B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Mr. Fleming assumed this position in 2009 after serving as Georgia Tech’s Chief Commercialization Officer since 2005 during which time he led a reorganization designed to streamline the handling of intellectual property, accelerate the licensing of technology, and make the Institute’s resources more readily accessible to business and industry. He has 13 years of private equity experience at the general partner level. Prior to his venture capital career, he spent 15 years in operations roles at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Nortel Networks, and LICOM (a venture-funded startup). Mr. Fleming is active in the “alternative space” industry where he is an investor in three private aerospace companies and a founding member of the Space Angels Netowrk. He also serves on the Boards of Trustees for the Spiritual Living Center of Atlanta and for Tech High School, a charter high school emphasizing science, math, and technology in urban Atlanta.
Karen has over 15 years of experience as a venture investor in early stage technology companies. She founded Agile Equities, a venture development company, where she advised venture firms, university technology transfer offices and start-up companies. Previously she was a Managing Director at ARCH Venture Partners and an associate of both Patricof & Co Ventures and ARCH Development Corporation. Karen has invested across a broad array of companies in life science, information technology, communications and semiconductors, including such companies as Amberwave Systems Silverstorm Technologies (aka InfiniCon Systems), Teach.com (Intellinex/E&Y), Ensemble, Illumina (NASDAQ:ILMN) and Diversa (NASDAQ:DVSA). She has served as an active director or board director observer in numerous early stage companies. Karen is a director of the National Association of Seed and Venture Funds and a member of both the National Science Foundation SBIR/STTR Advisory Committee and the Florida Technological Research and Development Authority Advisory Board. She is a Trustee of Bryn Mawr College and serves on the Physical Sciences Division Visiting Committee at the University of Chicago. Ms. Kerr previously served as director of the Chicago Public Education Fund and as a senior advisor to Akoya Capital in Chicago. She is a member of the C200 leading business women and in 2000 was selected by Crain’s Chicago business as one of the 40 under 40 leading business professionals in Chicago. Karen holds a PhD. in Physical Chemistry from The University of Chicago and an A.B. in Chemistry from Bryn Mawr College. She was a member of the Charter Class of Kauffman Fellows.
Ms. Koveleski is the head of Florida’s premier statewide support group for venture capitalists and entrepreneurs. As an entrepreneurial networking group, the Florida Venture Forum educates and assists businesses and technologies in identifying sources of capital from all across the country. Previously, Robin handled corporate and financial communications and marketing for privately-held and publicly-traded companies. She also served as Vice President of Investor Relations for Sykes Enterprises and BREED Technologies. Robin lives in Tampa and serves on the Executive Committees of Junior Achievement, The Outback Bowl and The Appalachian State University Foundation. She is also a Board member of the Association for Corporate Growth and Financial Executives International as well as the Star Tech Incubator. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Appalachian State University and a Master’s Degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
Mr. Singerman is a recognized national innovator in public/private partnerships to promote local economic development. Before joining B&D Consulting, Singerman was a managing director Toucan Capital Fund II, LLP, a $120 million private venture capital firm investing in early stage life science companies. Mr. Singerman also served as the founding Executive Director of the Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO), a State-sponsored technology transfer and commercialization agency. During his six-year tenure, TEDCO garnered a national reputation for successfully investing public funds in technology start-ups. Singerman pervious experience in technology commercialization and economic development also included service as U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development in the Clinton Administration, and as President/CEO of the Ben Franklin Technology Center of Southeastern Pennsylvania. He spent two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Colombia, South America. Singerman has served on numerous technology commercialization and economic development boards and commissions. Current appointments include East Baltimore Development, Inc. (Johns Hopkins University) and Chairman of East Baltimore Incubator, Inc.; the State Science and Technology Institute; the Tech Council of Maryland; the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Advisory Committee on Strengthening America’s Communities Initiative; and Chair of the Policy and Issues Committee of the International Economic Development Council. Dr. Singerman holds a B.A. from Oberlin College and a Masters and Ph.D. from Yale University.
An angel investor with a history of building start-up companies into successful businesses, Paul was a co-founder and Vice President/General Manager of JDS Uniphase's EPD Division in Bloomfield, CT from 1995 to 2000. In this role, Paul had full P&L responsibility for this active component division as it ramped from start-up status to a multi-hundred-million-dollar operation. He was then recruited by Battery Ventures to be the founding CEO for Optium, a spin-out from the University of Central Florida. Paul grew that company from start-up to initial public offering. Paul received his BSEE, MS, and Ph.D. from the University of Florida.
