Americans make up 5% of the world's population, yet consume 26% of the world's energy. The U.S. uses approximately 15 times more energy per person than the typical developing country. The United States spends about $440 billion annually for energy. Energy costs U.S. consumers $200 billion and U.S. manufacturers $100 billion annually.	The TRDA was established by the Florida Legislature in 1987 as an Independent Special District of the state. It is served by a five-member board of directors, each personally appointed by the Governor of Florida. The key to TRDA’s success has been its partnerships with numerous local, state and federal agencies, as well as the private sector, to generate tens of millions of dollars in funding to support education and economic development initiatives.
