Spirit of Columbia Rocket Launch

Spirit of Columbia Rocket Launch

The Spirit of Columbia is alive and well in the hearts, minds and classrooms of one South Florida school that recently attracted a great deal of attention.

More than 200 students, parents, teachers, media personnel and VIPs gazed upward as The Spirit of Columbia, a 24-foot low altitude sounding rocket and the largest amateur rocket ever built in Florida, soared straight and true toward the heavens on Saturday, August 28th.  Students from Pembroke Pines Charter Middle school flew the same tin crystal growth experiment they flew on the Shuttle Columbia’s final mission.

The video provided below summarizes the culminating event and launch of a year long educational program sponsored and funded by the Technological Research and Development Authority.  Continuing to fund these and other initiatives through the TRDA will better prepare our students to enter the workforce and become well-educated citizens who will contribute to Florida’s economy.

    TRDA Board of Directors
